Situated at Kumamoto, the Aso Mountain is an active volcano and it refers to the active volcano in this area. In this world, it is very rare to see a volcanic vent and therefore is a natural wonder of the world. Since it is near to other cities and it is relatively easy to reach, it has become an excellent tourist destination. You can take the Aso Mountain Tram, where it only takes 4 minutes to whisk you to the area near the volcanic vent and you can see the fantastic view during the ride.
Since the Aso Mountain is active, therefore there are some "emergency caves" which are for emergency purpose and those caves are very interesting in design. When visiting the area, please take note of the following:
The Aso Mountain Tram will announce the status of the volcano every day before it starts operation. Sometimes, due to safety circumstances, it may stop operations.
If you are person with Asthma, bronchial disease patient or those with heart diseases, please do not visit the mountain. If you are not feeling well, you should also refrain from visiting.
Please bring along packaged wet towels with you when visiting the volcanic vent. If you encounter bad smells in the volcano, please use your wet towel to cover your nose and mountain, and immediately leave the area.
If you feel unwell after breathing in the bad smell, please notify the staff at the volcano immediately.
Please also pay attention to the announcement. In case of emergency, please follow the instructions given by the staff.
