The Mercato Centrale is a popular spot in town. It is just 5 – 10 minutes walk from the Florence Cathedral and the Central Station. Therefore it can be accessed conveniently.
The main structure of the building was built in the 19th century and is 2 levels tall. The first level mainly sells dry goods, fruits and vegetables, spices, meat products; and the second level is the food court. The entire place is very clean and comfortable and all the products are properly placed.
This place is a good place for buying souvenirs, such as olive oil, balsamic vinegar, lemon wine, truffle sauce, cheese, ham, etc. and they relatively cheap in price. At the outer layer of the market, there are many stalls selling leather products, accessories and you can bargain with the shop owners for discounts.
You can find ample space within the food court on the second floor, providing different types of food. You can find free washroom and wifi available for use there as well.
Pic5&6: The historical shop Nerbone is located on the 1st floor of the market. The must eat item is onion garlic sauce on the panino con lampredotto, together with the tripe, which is very tasty.
